where our heart is...

Whilst refurbishing both Lupton House and The Cottage to the highest standards of comfort, owners Anna and Malcolm have managed to maintain the characterful elements of the original farm workers’ cottage whilst building to the highest levels of environmental performance. The walls and windows are all super-insulated, water is heated by solar panels, electricity is generated by photovoltaic panels and rain water is collected for use in the main house.

The Cottage’s solid oak floors were supplied and fitted by a local family business and the Brockway’s award-winning, ethical and environmental rare breeds carpet upstairs is made from pure, undyed, British wool.

Much of the furniture is antique or reclaimed and the breakfast is either home-grown organically, locally sourced or fairly traded.

Plastic soap dispensers are nowhere to be seen. Rather, stone soap dispensers are re-stocked with lavender hand-wash made on a local lavender farm and bought in bulk.

Ten pounds from every booking goes towards supporting orphaned children in India.
